FALL ISSUE 2025:
September 13, 2025
Autumn, The Best Time of Year
As autumn colors sweep across Colorado, this Fall issue of Metromode reminds us that change is not only seasonal—it’s political, cultural, and personal. In these pages, we’ve gathered stories that look squarely at the challenges, opportunities, and triumphs shaping LGBTQ+ life in our state today.

We begin with clarity on a subject that has stirred confusion since the passage of the Omnibus Reconciliation Legislation. Our news feature explains exactly how the “No Tax on Tips” and “No Tax on Overtime” provisions work in practice. These policies affect countless workers in Colorado’s service industries, many of whom identify as LGBTQ+, and understanding their impact is vital. We cut through the legislative fog, so our readers know what it really means for their paychecks and their futures.
Politics remain front and center with our in-depth interview with Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser, who is now stepping forward as a candidate for Governor. In candid conversation, Weiser reflects on the issues that matter most—from protecting civil rights and ensuring equitable healthcare access to the defense of democracy itself. His candidacy signals a pivotal moment in state politics, and our readers deserve to hear his vision firsthand.

Closer to home, we celebrate the blossoming of Denver’s Lavender Hill Cultural District. This new district—years in the making—embodies the resilience and creativity of Colorado’s queer community. It is more than geography; it’s a declaration of presence and permanence. Our editorial explores the district’s origins, its community-driven goals, and the cultural future it promises to build.
In “The Long View,” we take a step back to honor the ongoing contributions of queer women artists in Colorado. Their work not only illuminates our cultural landscape but also challenges us to see ourselves more truthfully. The article captures both the history and the forward motion of women who create unapologetically, rooted in identity and vision.
We also spotlight Colorado’s LGBTQ+ social media influencers—voices that have become both lifelines and lightning rods in our digital age. Their stories highlight the courage required to stay authentic in the face of online vitriol while also revealing the joy and solidarity they bring to their audiences.

Our reporting extends to higher education as well, where Metro State University, Colorado State University, and the University of Colorado are navigating the future of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs amid shifting federal priorities. The choices these institutions make will shape the experiences of thousands of students, queer and allied alike, for years to come.
We also include a story both exciting and sobering: the latest developments in CRISPR gene editing to potentially eliminate HIV. It is a scientific breakthrough that carries hope, but also uncertainty. The story reflects both the daring promise of progress and the weight of what is at stake.
And finally, because Fall is also a season of flavors and gathering, this is Metromode’s Special Foodie Issue—packed with recipes, editorial on local, queer owned eateries, the health benefits of black coffee, the history of Friendsgiving in the LGBTQ+ community, plus Colorado restaurants, cafes, and food.
Let’s just say, hot girl summer is over. It’s time to eat, throw on a hoodie, and enjoy!
