The Birth of Denver's Pride Fest: The story of Denver's Pride Fest begins in the early 1970s, a period when the LGBTQ+ community was beginning to mobilize for rights and recognition in a climate fraught with discrimination. The Stonewall Riots of 1969 in New York City ignited a wave of activism across the United States, and Denver was no exception. In 1974, a small but determined group of activists organized the city's first Pride event. It was a modest gathering, with participants marching down Colfax Avenue, clutching handmade signs and chanting slogans demanding equality and acceptance.


Despite its humble beginnings, this inaugural event laid the groundwork for what would become a cornerstone of Denver's cultural calendar. It was a bold declaration of visibility and resilience, signaling the start of a movement that would grow exponentially over the next few decades.
